First Mad River Light Artillery
Cannon Safety & Drill Course
November 8-9, 2008

The First Mad River Light Artillery (FMRLA) will offer a safety & drill course designed by the National Muzzle Loading Riffle Association (NMLRA) on Saturday and Sunday November 8-9, 2008 at George Rogers Clark Park near Springfield, Ohio in the GRCHA Gathering House.
NMLRA Certified Instructors will present the course which covers:
• School of the Piece
• Construction
• Inspection
• Ammunition
• Ignition
• Safety & First Aid
• Small arms
• “Horsing around with Muzzle Loading Artillery”
• Events
• Hands-on-activities with cannons
Participant must be 18 years of age to be certified. The fee for this course is $85.00, which includes a one-year membership in NMLRA. The fee for certified cannoneers (not required by NMLRA) to attend this as a refresher course is $25.00. If taking this as a refresher, please bring proof of your current cannon certification.
Registration includes lunch on Saturday and breakfast both days. Saturday starts with breakfast at 09:00 a.m. followed by classroom instruction, a break for lunch and back to the classroom for the afternoon. Primitive tent or trailer camping is available with some electric and no restroom dump on site. Saturday dinner is on your own. Sunday morning breakfast at 09:00 will be followed by more classroom presentations then on to hands-on-activities with muzzle loading cannons. Closing ceremonies and presentations will be concluded by 12:00 noon. Bring clothing suitable for November.
